About Us
Bikeworks Cycle shop has over 38 years experience in the Bicycle industry. Bikeworks Cycle shop first opened on April 1st 1970 in Bangor Town Centre and was known as 'Sampsons cycles'. The shop traded there until 1995 when it moved to the outskirts of Bangor to the Balloo Industrial Estate which offered more retail and workshop space. It was during this move that the shops name was changed to Bikeworks Cycle Shop.
Bikeworks is co-owned and run by Paul Smith and Dave Jenkins.
Paul...
is from a road racing background and was the 1987 Northern Ireland BAR road race champion, he won team gold in the 1988 Northern Ireland 50 mile TT champs and also won an individual bronze medal in the same championships. He was regularly placed in local races throughout the 80's and 90's. Paul is also also a Level 2 coach and a professional kinesiologist.
Dave...
was a sponsored BMX rider in his early days before moving into mountain biking. He has a passion for fixed geared bikes and single speed mountain biking. He has recently participated in club time trials (riding fixed of course) where he has produced some good results showing promise of a force to be reckoned with! Dave is a skilled bike mechanic who manages to get some of the most unloved bikes back into working order.
Warren Francis...
is the newest member of the team. He is also from a road racing background and has been competing regularly in open racing over the last few years. He was the 2007 Northern Ireland Hill Climb Champion and won a team Gold in the 2008 Northern Ireland 10 mile TT Championships. He is the shop's web man.
Bikeworks is a bike shop that embraces every kind of cycling, from kids' bikes, mountain bikes, commuting, touring and folding bikes, traditional Pashley bikes and trikes up to high end road racing and mountain bikes.
