The Belgian Project was created by Danny Blondeel from Ards Cycling Club. He has put a lot of effort into making this project work, and after its inital small steps in 2008, the project steps up a gear in 2009.

Why…..
To give young (under 23) Northern Ireland Ulster cycling talent a chance to compete, train, and improve their skills in a top cycling environment.
How….
Riders would be looked after by a racing family (vetted), and top amateur teams (29 wins this season in the Flanders and Northern Ireland by Decock-Capino from Moorsele-Wevelgem)
Goal……
Promote cycling sport in locally in Ulster and internationally.
Selection….
A point system will be used in 6 events in Ulster 2009 for Under 23s.(including the Tour of Ards and the Tour Of The North stage race)
* A junior participation guest rider agreement, sponsored by Lotto Bodysol Wc Menen (part of the Lotto Belgium Pro team)

Sponsors -
Bikeworks Cycle Shop,
FB Motors Newtownards,
P&O Ferries,
Cycling Ulster,
NICF,
Decock-Capino,
Kerr Signs
Who is Decock-Capino?
* Main sponsor Alu Decock from Moorsele in the West of Flanders (home of the Flanders Fields) has been involved in cycling for 8 years, and after a split from the old New Heebra-Decock team ,a new team was born in 2007,competing in regional and national races in the continent.
* In the first year they managed 17 wins, and after competing here in Ulster in 2008, they clocked 29 wins in their second year.
* The winner of the Ballymena stage in the Tour of the North ,Tom Van Becelaere, became a semi pro with Palmans ,a continental team.
* The team is run by ex-cycling stars, has connections with pro racing, and regarded as a serious player in Belgium, watched by top teams.
* They have over 25 sponsors in Belgium, and supporters as Nico Matan,Frank Van de Broecke, and many hundreds more.
* They provided 3 places in the team for our lads in 2008 ,and will improve that to 4 in 2009.
* All expenses have been covered by the team ,clothing, mechanical problems, tuition, ext…
* The team for the “Tour Of The North” in 2009 will be headed by Geoffrey Demeyere (ex pro with “Top Sport Vlaanderen & Eddy Mercxk”,and winner of “Gent-Wevelgem and the “Vlaamse Pijl ”as a under 23),and another 9 pro wins .
* The other team members will be younger, but proven class acts ,with the intention of winning the tour here!!
To who it may concern
* As the Decock-Capino team has invested a lot of time and money into this project, the visit to compete in the Tour of the North is a pr. exercise to highlight the project, and make a serious attempt to win the tour!! Also to find some local sponsors to fund their stay here .Last years sponsor Bikeworks Cycle Shop Bangor is already committed, but we need some more backers!! NICF & Cycling Ulster have been giving small bursaries towards the project to start the project and cover some expenses, I am very grateful for this!!
* P&O Irish ferries were a transport sponsor for the team cars last Easter, and will be involved this Easter hopefully.
* We are still looking for sponsor spots and food sponsor. This be in a package ranging from £250 to £400 as co-sponsors for the visit.
* Other sponsors are very welcome to fund the expenses of the riders who will compete in the Flanders next summer.
What can you expect from your investment in the future of young Ulster talent?
1.Coverage on local and national papers, websites and local radio(overhere and in Belgium)
2..Advertising on the team cars in The Tour Of The North (magnetic stickers) and project jerseys (6 events in Ulster incl. Tour of the North)
4.Complementary polo shirt with your advertising (worn by the whole team and supporters!!)
5.A golden pr. Exercise to promote your firm all over the province and further.
